Registration Requirements for Forester and Forestry Technicians
In order to be licensed and registered as a professional forester or forestry technician
in West Virginia, you must meet the following criteria.
Registered Forester. Requirements to be licensed and registered as a
professional forester the applicant shall have (1) a bachelor's degree in forestry from a
four (4) year school, college or university or a master's degree program from a college
or university, accredited by the Society of American Foresters and at least two (2)
years of full-time equivalent work experience as a professional forester within ten (10)
years preceding the date of filing an application for registration; or (2) an associate's
degree from a two (2) year technical forestry program recognized by the Society of
American Foresters plus a bachelor's degree in another natural science or business
and at least four (4) years of full-time equivalent work experience in the field of forestry
acceptable to the board within the ten (10) years preceding the date of filing an
application for registration.
Registered Forestry Technician. Requirements to be licensed and registered
as a professional forestry technician the applicant shall have an associates degree
from a two (2) year technical forestry program recognized by the Society of American
Foresters and at least four (4) years of full-time equivalent work experience in the field
of forestry acceptable to the board within the ten (10) years preceding the date of filing
an application for registration.
APPLYING FOR LICENSE:
Completing the application. - You can download the application from our
website or request an application in writing from the board secretary. Complete all the
information requested on the application form, including complete mailing addresses of
your five references that have knowledge of your professional work experience
and character, three of which must be graduate foresters. Instructions
regarding the application are located in Section 7 of the form.
Once the application is completed, please return it with the required Fifty dollar
($50.00) application fee payable to WV State Board of Registration for
Foresters or WVBORF, and an official college transcript. The
transcript must have the embossed seal of the granting institution or the original
signature certification of the appropriate official of the institution.
Two regular scheduled meetings of the WV State Board of Registration for Foresters
(WVBORF) are held on the second Thursday of April and October of each year, and
completed applications will be considered at that time.
