Continuing Education

All licensed forester and forestry technician are required to take 10 hours of Continuing Forestry Education (CFE) each year. CFE contact hour sheets must be prepared or recognized by the Society of American Foresters (SAF). All licensees can download the CFE form and submit to the Board to document their Continuing Forestry Education credit hours. Listed are several links to websites where continuing education courses are offered.

- West Virginia Division of Forestry
- West Virginia Forestry Association
- WVU Division of Forestry
- WVU Appalachian Hardwood Center
- Society of American Foresters

In addition, other states offer continuing education through their state agencies, university extension agencies and forestry associations.

Emeritus Status

If licensed foresters or forestry technicians retire from the forestry profession and will no longer be actively practicing forestry as a profession, they can keep their license and be registered under Emeritus Status. The licensee is still required to renew his license annually and pay the required renewal fee, but is not responsible for taking the required 10 hours of continuous forestry education annually. To apply for Emeritus Status, the licensee needs to make his request in writing to the Board and give a brief description why is applying for Emeritus Status. All requests will be considered at the next board meeting.
